I know I'm not the only one who Bank of America has made them reach their boiling point. (To put it nicely) A few years back I had bought some royalty free images. The company double charged my account making my go into the red.
First, I had to talk to paypal, to make sure that company would never get money from me again. Then I had to go back and forth between Bank of America and the company I bought the images from. Neither wanted to fix the problem.
This was an ongoing process for about two weeks. Well, Bank of America charged me $30 every other day for having negative funds! That made me lose it! I threatened to tell everyone I know how they no longer help their clients, bad customer service, and so on and so forth... Just the threat of telling everyone I know through social media I was transferred to some head honcho manager who took me seriously and told me to go to my local bank fillout some form which would look into the original double charge and he removed all the negative balances charges.
It's amazing how sometimes just mentioning telling other people you are dissatisfied with some company's performance most times you'll be taken more seriously. But also include that you will post it onto Facebook and Twitter and then they go into a tizzy! Lots of businesses know that social media is very powerful and that it could damage their reputation by posting nasty comments onto their Facebook page. I wonder if I thought of that back then maybe I would have been talked to sooner and the problem would have been fixed sooner???
Yes! It's good to hear that social media works, especially with a huge company like B of A. I have been wondering if the bigger companies are monitoring social media, and it sounds like at least B of A is. Nice work!

Thanks!
DeleteYeah B of A monitors their stuff really carefully I hear. Probably because people are complaining all the time and they need to nip problems in the butt or else everyone will see. Even though everyone already knows that they are no longer a good bank and don't care about their customers.
Bank Of America should be called another name because 98% of the time they do nothing for the working American because Brian Monyahan and Warren Buffet who runs lots of parts of Bank Of America have nothing to do with America or American lives.
ReplyDeleteIf I ever get a pay-raise I will close my Bank Of America account because they don't deserve my business as an American Veteran, and they don't deserve the honor of having American Veterans around America showing up to their branches.
I am so glad you got on the horn(phone) and made a few phone calls to get your problem fixed.
WOW!
Thank you, I actually closed all my accounts about two weeks later. I was fed up with them. Only thing I still have is a paid off credit card that I never use but need to keep open to help my credit.
DeleteHave you heard of USAA??? They are an amazing bank and work primarily with military and veterans. There is always a person on the other line (not a computer) and they are always so friendly and willing to help. They are by far my favorite bank and I can see myself banking with them forever because I like them that much.
I definitely agree. I have also had issues with customer service at banks. I think they will give more attention to people they see as a threat aka people who speak up, have social klout or influence because they have more to lose. I think companies are starting to move toward more reputation management especially with the power of social media growing. Anyone can become influential and have a public voice with the tools available so companies are realizing that most of their marketing efforts should be "customer-centric".
ReplyDeleteHappy your issue was resolved. But doesn't it bother you that you have to make a threat to go public before the bank would do what it should have done in the first place.
ReplyDeleteI think social media has grown so much now that it has a bigger impact than it would have a few years ago. I think more companies are keeping an eye on it today and that will probably grow.
Banks are horrible. I think the problem here is that everyone already knows and nothing could help. Not even social media!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about how seriously businesses take threats about using social media to negatively blast their company. I was suprised to here that your story was with BofA because I have always had really good service by them. I'm glad that they finally took you seriously and solved the problem even if Paypal probably should have been the one to fix it. I wonder, did you ever get anywhere with Paypal?
ReplyDeleteThe Bank of America 30.00 everyday happen to me a year ago. The powerlessness, was somethinfg still makes me cringe. That kind of situation is just so common too. The people get so lost in the uoset, forgetting to make that complaint. I did call after a year had passed to pay that overdraft charges that held my account in negitive all that time. So I had asked if they would take my payroll check to cover the amount owed? Then the account would be paid and if then I would be able to use that same account. Not only the account no longer active, but my check was not going to pay this balance due. The best thing for me to do is cash my check and come to the branch for payment. I was then asked what day would I like to come? I was amazed, and asked you will not cash my paycheck to pay the account. The lady stated no, and asked again when I would like to come to the branch. She was ready to set up an appointment with me. That was stopping the customer service with their bank for good.
